Today, on its final day, the Global Summit will explore national spectrum plans and the economic benefits of spectrum.

The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today announced details of its upcoming demonstration for the interactive, all-virtual 2021 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC). Showcasing 800 Gigabit per second (Gbps) capacity-per-port equipment and multivendor interoperability across 25 Gigabit Ethernet (25GbE), 50GbE, 100GbE, 200GbE and 400GbE technologies and solutions in a variety of form factors, media and reaches, the demonstration involving 11 Ethernet Alliance member companies will be staged and filmed at Teledyne LeCroy, Inc., in Austin, Texas, and then shown during OFC 2021, which is scheduled for June 6-10.

The USB Promoter Group today announced the release of the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) Revision 3.1 specification, a major update to enable delivering up to 240W of power over the USB Type-C® cable and connector. Prior to this update, USB PD was limited to 100W via a solution based on 20V using USB Type-C cables rated at 5A. The USB Type-C specification has also been updated with Release 2.1 to define 240W cable requirements, and with the updated USB PD protocol and power supply definition, this extends the applicability of USB PD to a large number of applications where 100W wasn’t adequate.

The Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) has today announced that representatives from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Mexico’s Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT)will be speaking at its upcoming Global Summit. This year marks the ninth DSA Global Summit, which will bring together regulators, policymakers and industry stakeholders from around the world to deliberate spectrum sharing methods and models.

Today, BMW, Bosch, Broadcom, Continental, General Motors, Hyundai Motor Company, Marvell, NXP Semiconductors, Renesas, TOYOTA Motor Corporation, Volkswagen, and Volvo Cars announce the incorporation of the OPEN Alliance SIG.

Since inception in 2011, OPEN Alliance SIG has been instrumental in wide scale adoption of Automotive Ethernet for in vehicle networking and connectivity applications. OPEN Alliance SIG established the very first open automotive Ethernet standard (BroadR-Reach®) technology and has released over 35 standards to date. The standards are now referenced by OEMs and Tier-1s as part of their requirements. Further, OPEN Alliance maintains close ties with other industry standard bodies like IEEE and ISO to optimally proliferate automotive Ethernet.
