The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today announced, as part of its upcoming “Ethernet 104: Introduction to 2.5G/5G BASE-T Ethernet” webinar, the growing support from its membership for the standardization activity within the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group to develop a standard addressing 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (2.5G) and 5 Gigabit Ethernet (5G) operation over today’s Cat 5e and Cat 6 cabling infrastructure. The webinar will explore the challenges, problems, and potential solutions in addressing this application space on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at 10am PDT.

On the first day of the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance Summit, Prof. H Nwana, Executive Director of the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance, along with delegates from five continents, stressed that complementary and alternative technology ecosystems – such as enabled by dynamic spectrum access –will be needed in order for the world’s governments to connect the four billion unconnected people worldwide and accommodate the emerging Internet of Things. Speaking at the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance Global Summit in Manila (6-8 May), Prof. Nwana emphasized that many regulators around the globe are already taking action, however he hopes others will rapidly follow suit. The first day of the Summit featured product announcements, as well as new regulatory proceedings.

AVnu Alliance, the industry consortium driving open standards deterministic networking through certification, announced today that internationally - recognized pro audio manufacturer, L-Acoustics has joined the Alliance. The France-based company aims to make a substantial impact to the growth of the Audio Video Bridging/Time Sensitive Networking (AVB/TSN) standards in partnership with existing AVnu Alliance members.

The Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) welcomes Ofcom’s decision to implement TV white space regulations, enabling access to the unused arts of radio spectrum in the 470 to 790 MHz frequency band. This follows Industry Canada’s recent release of its TV white space regulations for rural and near-urban internet access and signifies a real milestone for dynamic spectrum access across the world, highlighting its growing momentum.

The Open Interconnect Consortium has issued a reference implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) standard it hopes will unify creators of connected devices and applications.
The reference implementation, called IoTivity, can be used by device makers and application creators as a starting point to build products and services that are compliant with the standard backed by the Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC) and interoperable across other OIC standard-compliant products and services.
